Catalina Island is a great place to escape to, whether you are just visiting Southern California or you are a local. Catalina offers so many activities; diving, snorkeling, hiking, camping, shopping, eating, hanging out on the beach, etc. We recently visited Catalina for the day with our family and had a great time just exploring the little town of Avalon. To get to Catalina you will need to take a boat over. We took the Catalina Flyer which left from the Balboa Pavillion (same place as the Balboa Fun Zone) at 9am. The trip is about 1 hr. and 15 min long. Sometimes you may get lucky and see whales (we did).

Once our boat docked our group headed straight over to rent a golf cart and do an organized scavenger hunt. This was such a fabulous way to see almost all of Avalon! The hunt took us to places I had never been before.
After the hunt was over we had some extra time with the cart we drove over to Pebbly Beach Road and took the turn up Wrigley Road to the top of the mountain. This is one of the best views of Avalon Bay.
To finish off our day my dad took us all to the new Bluewater Avalon Restaurant. I highly recommend this place on your visit to Avalon. The food was fabulous and the view from the outdoor patio unbeatable. You cannot have a better place to eat on the water. We got the Angus Cheeseburger and the Seafood Paella Valenciana and they were both excellent.
